The EU Labour Force Survey has adopted a new methodology from 2021 forward, with the entry into force of Regulation (EU) 2019/1700. According to this implementing regulation, major changes in the EU-LFS have permitted a major harmonization across countries participating in the survey, and also a major comparability across domains in social statistics, by using harmonized definitions and methodology. In effect, the source table has been changed to focus on people not searching for employment but who would like still to have work, where 'retirement' is no longer included (classified as not wanting to work for those who do not want to have work). For more information regarding the new methodology and its implications, see this article.

There are additional breaks in time series and some points show low reliability. Please refer to Eurostat (table: lfsa_igar) and related metadata for more information.
